Predicting Exam Readiness From Practice Trend
Readiness is not a feeling; it's a measurable state. The single most useful read is your rolling accuracy on the last 100-200 mixed, timed practice items in conditions mimicking the real exam.
The readiness signal
- Stable accuracy of 75-80%+ across latest items, mixed format, timed: realistic readiness for most pass/fail cut points.
- Recent trending up over steady gains: more confident than your early baseline.
- Stability across item types: not crashing on SATA, NGN, or ethics items.
The non-signal
- "I feel like I should be ready" — irrelevant.
- Number of practice questions answered — irrelevant (volume doesn't equal retention).
- Latest mock score — useful, but weighted against longer practice trend.
Red flags
- High accuracy only on familiar topics; collapses when items mix topics.
- Low accuracy in timed conditions despite high untimed accuracy.
- Inability to articulate why the correct answer is correct (recognition, not reasoning).
Decision rule
- If rolling 100-item accuracy is below 70%: not yet ready; spend 2-3 more weeks on weakness map.
- If 70-75% with flat trend: borderline; one more full-length mock to confirm.
- If 75%+ stable, trending up, full mock confirms: register and finish.
Caveat
Practice trends are estimates, not guarantees. Real exam conditions introduce variance your mocks won't capture. But the trend is your best signal.
